Cloud Gardens Waterfall
(with an ascending pathway leading to a metal suspension bridge atop the falls).
The surprise and sensual relief of water;
its physical presence seems much stronger than its acoustic one.
This waterfall also functions as a natural atomizer
- the churning water infuses the city air with heavy doses of oxygen
But why aren't water fountains designed to infuse the soundscape with a more interesting array of sonic detail?
The sound of this waterfall is very broad-band
(much like the traffic noise we just left),
and the only sonic variation is the gurgling and splashing
caused by a long, narrow channel running from the base of the falls out to the sidewalk.
Surely an acoustic designer, even a composer or musician, should be involved
in designing the sounds of a city's waterfalls and fountains!
